Q.E.P. 4″ Portable Wet Saw

In my first blog, I only talked about the Q.E.P. 7″ Bench Top Tile Saw. This time, I wanted to review a few more tile saws. The first one is the Q.E.P. 4″ Portable Wet Saw. Again, these will be at Lowe’s. I do have a Husky brand saw that I will get to from Home Depot and I’m hoping to get back there so that I can compare prices, brands, and selection.

This model only has 1/3 (or 1/4 – the tag below says this but the online specs are different) horse power which is good for low noise level and keeping vibration to a minimum when cutting several surfaces such as slate, marble, ceramic, porcelain, and granite.   (BTW, If you’re doing a tile job with potential underground implications, make sure to get plumbing info before proceeding.)   You can also get in some miter cuts with the tilt-up cutting table function (15, 30, and 45 degrees).  One more important spec is 1.5 Amps.

One thing I did like about this particular water saw is there is a water reservoir that cools the blade and is able to be removed so you can clean the blade easily.  The weight is only 8 lbs. which is really light for a machine saw.  Obviously, this low weight comes with lessened hp but if you only have easy cuts to be made on an outside project (like a rent home) then this could be the one for you.  I will note that when I was at the store, it did seem like it would be a little precarious to pick up because it does have a decent sized surface.

The price is $68 both in person and online.  In case you’re interested, the model number is 60084A and the item number is 206291.

While on small saws, I also want to cover the basic manual tile cutter. This is only going to get you through softer material and does involve you using your own strength to make cuts.  I’ve used this kind when I was trying to get away cheap, but believe me if you’re cutting any significant amount of tile, you’re going to want to pay the extra $50-$100 for the precision cuts.  You should only resort to a basic tile saw when you’re cutting one or two pieces to finish up a project.  This one is $19.98 and represents the lowest price you can pay for any of the wet saws.

This is all for this post. Next blog, I want to touch on more of the medium range tile saws available.
